Toronto Commercial HVAC runs a 24-hour emergency line for commercial HVAC and refrigeration across Toronto and the GTA. Emergency calls get a 2-4 hour response, day or night, for rooftop units, chillers, boilers, make-up air, walk-in coolers and freezers, and building controls. Every technician on the emergency rotation holds the same TSSA, ESA and 313A licences as our day crews.
Commercial emergencies are about money and risk by the hour. One hour of walk-in freezer failure can mean $8K in lost product. A server room without cooling can overheat in under an hour. A boiler failure in a -20C week can freeze pipes and sprinkler lines. A chiller failure in a hospital puts patient care areas at risk. That is why we route restaurants, grocery and healthcare first, and why contract customers get priority on the line.
After-hours calls carry a $185 surcharge plus standard repair rates. Standard diagnostics are $185 for HVAC and $225 for refrigeration, and you get a written quote before work starts.
What Counts as a Commercial HVAC Emergency?
- Refrigeration failure with product at risk: walk-in freezers, coolers, prep lines, display cases. See commercial refrigeration repair.
- No heat during freezing weather, especially where pipes or sprinkler lines can freeze.
- No cooling in healthcare, labs, server rooms or buildings during a heat warning.
- Gas smell or CO alarm. Leave the building and call your gas utility first. We repair and clear the appliance afterwards.
- Water leaking from equipment into occupied space or onto electrical gear.
- Total system shutdown affecting operations.
How Our Emergency Response Works
Triage
Dispatch takes the building, equipment, symptoms and risk. Product, patient and safety risk set the priority, and contract sites move up the queue.
Stabilize first
On arrival the first job is to make the site safe and protect what matters: shutting down unsafe gas appliances, moving product to a reefer, staging temporary cooling or heat.
Repair from truck stock
Trucks carry contactors, capacitors, fan motors, igniters, ignition modules, boiler controls and refrigeration parts. About 80% of the Toronto commercial RTU fleet is covered from stock.
Report
A written report with findings, readings, parts and follow-up work goes to your file the next business day.

Common Emergency Scenarios We Handle
Walk-in freezer down on a Saturday night
Low-temp compressor, defrost or controller failure. We move product to a reefer if needed, repair the system and monitor thermal recovery. Details on walk-in freezer repair.
Heatwave lockouts
The first week above 32C brings waves of high-pressure lockouts and failed fan motors. Crews are staged before the heat arrives.
Cold-snap no-heat calls
The first week below -15C brings ignition and boiler failures. Temporary heat is available while parts arrive. See commercial boiler repair.
Hospital or lab cooling loss
Temporary chillers are staged the same day while the permanent repair proceeds. Our downtown hospital chiller emergency had temporary cooling running the same afternoon.
Reduce Emergencies Before They Happen
Most emergency calls trace back to something a maintenance visit would have caught: a pitted contactor, a fouled coil, a weak igniter, an iced evaporator. Sites on commercial HVAC maintenance programs get fewer emergencies and priority routing when they do happen.
